Seminars
IKA organizes basic and practical seminars on calorimetry twice a year.
The seminar ‘Calorimeter Days’ is about combustion calorimetry in general and includes all necessary theory, accreditation and first practical experiences.
Our ‘Hands-On Days’ seminar focuses on expanding user knowledge as well as on gaining practical experiences with a calorimeter including sample preparation according to the most important calorimetry standard DIN 51900 .
We are looking forward to your participation.
Further information on our calorimeter seminars can be found here:

Theory & Practice Seminar: Everything in 2,5 Days, the best in one
General information
This year, theory and practice merge into a single event.
Expand your knowledge in the field of calorimetry and benefit from professional exchange with other users from a wide range of industries. We have been successfully conducting the two-day Calorimeter Days seminar for over 10 years.
Process and Content
The theoretical workshop (day 1) focuses on:- Accreditation according to ISO 17025
- Sampling
- Laboratory equipment for a calorific value analysis laboratory
- Internal and external quality assurance (control chart management and round robin testing)
- Comparison of the new DIN 51900 and other current calorimeter standards
- General information about combustion calorimetry
The content of the practical days ranges from the analytical moisture content determination of a previously prepared and certified IPTA sample, calorimeter calibration, target value chart management, thermodynamic correction calculations, and calorific and heating value calculations.
Two to a maximum of three users will work on a calorimeter at a time. Each user will receive a certificate of participation upon successful completion of the practical seminar.
The calculations and methods applied are based on the calorimetry standard DIN 51900 for liquid and solid fuels. The seminar participants can then apply the acquired knowledge directly in their daily laboratory work or adapt it accordingly to the standard(s) prescribed by their respective company.Bestimmung der Analysenfeuchte einer Probe im Trockenschrank (Ho,V(an), Ho,V(d))
- Optimal calibration of the IKA calorimeters (according to DIN 51900)
- Linearity range verification of the calorimeter
- Determination of the preliminary calorific value on the calorimeter
- Determination of the upper calorific value (Ho,v)
- Determination of QN and QS
- Calculation of the lower calorific value (Hu,V / Hu,p)
- Theoretical part: Comparison/evaluation of the certified IPTA sample results
- Review of the results and comparison
Target group:
- Calorimeter users
- New customers
- Interested persons
- Laboratory management
Each participant will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the seminar.
The workshop is held in German.
