How to Filter Suspensions when using Synthesis Reactors

OPTIMIZED PARTICLE SEPARATION IN SYNTHESIS REACTORS USING PH-CONTROLLED PRECIPITATION REACTIONS

Particles with a wide range of properties are used in a variety of applications. Precipitation reactions in particular, some of which are pH-controlled, are a frequently used type of synthesis that is often carried out in reactors. After successful synthesis, the liquid phase must be separated from the particles produced. But how can this separation be carried out with a synthesis reactor?

ACCELERATE FILTRATION WITH BOTTOM-OUTLET REACTOR AND VACUUM-ASSISTED FILTER SYSTEM

Following particle synthesis, the particles are filtered and washed. The experimental setup shown in the following figure is suitable for this.

Reactor system setup
By using a reactor vessel with a bottom outlet, the suspension of particles and reaction solution can be discharged from the continous stirred tank reactor directly into a filter frit via the bottom outlet. The filter frit is placed on a suction bottle, which is connected to a vacuum pump. The vacuum applied significantly accelerates filtration.

MAINTAIN PARTICLE SUSPENSION BY STIRRING DURING REACTOR VESSEL EMPTYING

To prevent the particles from settling during the reaction, it is recommended to continue stirring the reaction solution when emptying the reactor vessel.

RESULT

Complete filtration is achieved by using the structure shown. The extraction device can be adapted depending on the reactor volume.
