Color Dispersion in Personal Care Applications

IMPORTANCE OF COLOR PIGMENTS IN COSMETIC PRODUCTS

Color pigments are used in many personal care and cosmetic products to add color and enhance the aesthetics of the final products to make them more appealing to consumers. If color pigments are not properly dispersed prior to formulation, the final product can appear dull, unsightly and lumpy.

How can you ensure that these pigments are properly dispersed before they are added to the formulation?

ADVANTAGES OF THE ROTOR-STATOR DESIGN FOR DISPERSION

The rotor-stator design of the dispersers provides an extremely high shear, which helps to break up the color pigments in the solution and ensures a homogeneous distribution of the pigments. The high speed at which the device works also ensures fast dispersion, which saves time and increases productivity.

USE OF THE T 25 EASY CLEAN CONTROL FOR HEAT-SENSITIVE PIGMENTS

It is recommended to use the T 25 easy clean control with the temperature measuring shaft, as color pigments can be sensitive to heat. Prolonged dispersion can lead to heat development and cause color changes if not monitored. The T 25 easy clean is equipped with a patented temperature measuring function that monitors the temperature of the medium in real time during the dispersion process and has a safety temperature setting function that stops the device as soon as a safety temperature is detected to ensure that no discoloration occurs due to increased heat.

RESULTS OF THE DISPERSION

Complete dispersion can be achieved (photo right). If there is insufficient shear, the result can be unsatisfactory, as can be seen in the photo on the left. The dispersed colors can then be used in the next step of the formulation.
