Avoidance of Condensation in Reaction Microtubes

COMMON PROCEDURES IN BIOLOGICAL LABORATORIES

Tempering/incubating samples is the most common procedure in biological laboratories. This involves heating the sample above room temperature, which leads to evaporation, causing the liquid samples to condense and settle on the lid of the tubes.

PROBLEM OF CONDENSATION

Condensation leads to a loss of the sample, which impairs the reaction kinetics and jeopardizes the reproducibility of enzymatic reactions and various molecular processes.

SOLUTION WITH THE IKA MX THERMOCOVER

The formation of condensation can be minimized if the lid of the reaction microtubes is heated from above. This process can be effectively achieved by using the IKA MX thermocover (external accessory).

The MX thermocover is a lid with which the sample containers can be heated from above. The lid is automatically recognized by the main device. As soon as it is connected to the device, the lid starts to heat the vessels from above so that the temperature of the vessel lid is higher than that of the heating block. This creates an equilibrium condition and prevents condensation of the sample inside the tubes.
